Q: How do I contact my student during the school day?

A. You may reach your student during school hours by contacting the school office to leave a message for them. The same applies to students. If your student needs to contact you during the school day, they may come to the main office.

Q: My student has a medical condition and needs access to their cell phone. What should I do?

A. Policy exemptions will be made for students with documented health plans. This is different than a doctor’s note which is not considered an Individualized Health Plan. Generally speaking, a student should have an Individualized Health Plan and/or 504/IEP that indicates the need for a cell phone.

Q: Why was my student disciplined for having their cell phone when other students in their classroom weren’t?

A. The District’s cell phone protocols are in place for every student in our district. This is to ensure all students can learn in a positive environment that is free of classroom disruptions and distractions caused by cell phones and tele-communicative devices. However, there may be some students that use their cell phones to monitor certain health conditions documented in their student records or because they have been authorized to use their electronic device for a specific educational purpose only.

Q: Can my student use their phone in case of an emergency?

A. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. While students cannot use cell phones or tele-communicative devices during instructional time, they still have access to their phones in case of an emergency in their building.

Q: My student can use their phone in other classes. Why can’t they use it in yours?

A. The cell phone protocol is being enforced in all buildings across the District. Students are prohibited from using their cell phones or tele-communicative devices during instructional time. There may be some students that use their cell phones because of an Individualized Health Plan and/or 504/IEP that indicates the need for cell phone use or because they have been authorized to use their cell phone for a specific educational purpose.

Q: My student utilizes their cell phone as their calculator during math. What should they do?

A. The District provides calculators to students in classes that require the use of calculators.
